The architectural inspiration behind this monument is the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence.

This monument was commissioned by König Ludwig I. von Bayern and built between 1841 and 1844. The purpose was to create a monument to the Bavarian army and its victorious generals.

The bronze statues of Graf Tilly and Fürst Wrede were created by Ludwig von Schwanthaler using melted-down cannons. They are a tribute to the Bavarian army and its leaders.

The central monument in the hall is the Armeedenkmal, a monumental bronze group created by Ferdinand von Miller der Jüngere. It commemorates the Deutsch-Französischen Krieg of 1870/71.

Visitors can expect to see the impressive architecture, the bronze statues of Graf Tilly and Fürst Wrede, the Armeedenkmal, and the marble lions created by Wilhelm Ruemann in 1905. Additionally, a bronze plaque on the adjacent Residenz façade honors the four police officers who died during the 1923 putsch attempt.
